Jason's Career as a Player
As a junior player, Jason played most of his competitive tennis throughout Oregon, Washington, Nevada, & California. Capturing several singles & doubles titles as a junior, Jason held the #1 Boy's 18 & under ranking, and ranked #2 in the Boys 16's. He twice represented Northern Nevada at the prestigious Governor's Cup (Las Vegas), once won by tennis legend, Andre Agassi and former World #1 Doubles Player & former TCU standout, David Pate.
As an adult, Jason's latest achievement came at the 2010 Northstar Open Championships (Lake Tahoe, CA), where he reached the semi-finals of the Men's Open Singles & Doubles. Alongside long-time student & junior tennis standout, Weslely S. Reimer, they held set point to close out the first set against 5-time defending champions & national "gold ball" champions, Jani Tiilikainen & Mark Fairchilds, both former Touring Pro's.
At the 2010 Reno City Championships, Jason reached the Men's Open Doubles final with his student & University of Oregon standout, Jeffrey Mullen. In 2009, Jason reached the Men's Open Doubles final at the Northstar Open, again partnering long-time student, Wesley S. Reimer. In addition, Jason captured the Men's Open Doubles title at the 1999 Lake Tahoe Tennis Classic (Zephyr Cove, NV) when it had the strongest field in tournament history (see attached newspaper article in the "News" section). Jason was also a Singles Finalist at the 1999 Mammoth Open (Mammoth Lakes, CA), and won the Men's Doubles title at the 1998 Lakeridge Tennis Championships in Reno, Nevada.
In 2001, Jason tore a wrist ligament in his dominant arm. Prior to undergoing a successful wrist surgery, he taught himself how to play (and teach) left-handed. This significantly enhanced his understanding for the game, both playing and teaching, and really put things in perspective as to how much he loved the sport of tennis. In order to fulfill his passion for the game (and hunger for competition), Jason began competing left-handed. One of his most fulfilling moments as a player came at the 2001 Lakeridge Class Championships, where he made the semi-finals of the 4.5 level Men's Singles event, playing "lefty".
More on Jason's Career
After studying Journalism & Business Management at the University of Nevada, Reno, Jason became a certified USPTA teaching professional in 1994. Dedicating the past 30 years of his life to the sport, his love for the game continues to this day. Jason's had the opportunity to personally meet and be on the court with many tennis greats, such as Federer, Safin, Davydenko, Sampras, Agassi, Nadal, Tim Henman, Michael Chang, Monica Seles, Marina Hingis, Tommy Haas and Lleyton Hewitt, among others. He's personally witnessed how the best players in the world train, and enjoys passing this knowledge on to his students.
From 1996 - 2010, Jason traveled with his top players (junior & adult) to tournaments throughout the country, many of whom who went on to play at the Collegiate and Professional levels. (See Above).
Although Jason's specialized in developing the "tournament player", he equally enjoys working with all ages and abilities, especially those who have a passion for the game.
Jason's main goal, teaching philosophy, and greatest reward are seeing his students develop a passion for the game. "If the player enjoys the process, the competition, and the game itself, they will want to be involved in it that much more. Enjoy the process - Enjoy the battle - Fulfill your personal potential! - IT'S THAT SIMPLE!"
"Develop a passion and the results will follow"
